Synthetic Grass FAQ

Synthetic Grass FAQ

Due to its low maintenance and aesthetic appeal, synthetic turf for residential and commercial properties has become extremely popular in recent years. SW Greens is Florida’s largest supplier and installer of synthetic turf, installing more than 400, 000 sq. ft in Florida annually. At Southwest Greens Florida, we are so confident in our ability to deliver you a quality finished product; we guarantee it. Our comprehensive warranty covers turf defects and our installation exceeds industry norms. Our reputation speaks for itself when it comes to quality.

How durable is synthetic turf? How long does it typically last?

Since launching in 2002, we have literally installed thousands of golf greens, lawn, and other commercial installations that still have the vivid green color of natural lawns. Our comprehensive warranty covers turf and installation against turf defects, and Southwest Greens’ products are designed to withstand heavy traffic and extreme weather conditions. Our manufacturer’s warranty on the turf is from Shaw Industries, a Berkshire Hathaway company.

Why is Southwest Greens golf green better than nylon golf greens?

Our synthetic golf greens are created with specific materials and installation processes which enable us to create a top notch putting surface that is approved by the best golfer in the world, Jack Nicklaus. We also spend a lot of time on “Design” of the green and then build it to “Spec”. Compared to our Pro System product, competitor’s nylon, easy-to-install greens, simply don’t offer the natural green look, feel or performance of our greens that replicate t0ur quality natural greens. We can speed it up or slow it down. With our product, your ball will perform and react as it would on a natural surface. However, unlike natural greens that change with seasonal weather and require tons of maintenance, our synthetic greens remain consistent year-round. Quite simply, nylon greens don’t hold a candle to our Southwest Green system which is why over 30 PGA Tour Pro’s own our greens and endorse us.

Does synthetic turf get hot?

Yes. Synthetic turf installed outdoors where exposed to radiant sunlight; heats up significantly. Fortunately, we invented the only proven, patented solution, HydroChill.  After investing millions with our affiliated company, Shaw Industries, Southwest Greens International introduced HydroChill to the market a few years ago. It cools the turf 30 to 50 degrees on average and we can prove it with hard data and testimonials from satisfied customers. Don’t buy bogus claims from shady competitors without any legitimate proof to back it up!

How long does it take to install synthetic turf products?

As with many projects, installation time of synthetic turf products depends on size and complexity. Most residential projects can be completed within a week. More complicated installation may take longer. Factors like jobsite access, competing contractor work, landscaping and weather conditions may have an effect on installation time.

What is in-fill? Why is it important?

In-fill is a washed and rounded silica sand commonly used in our applications.  Crumb rubber is typically not used unless required for athletic field or playground applications to resist compaction, and achieve GMAX performance standards. The purpose of in-fill is to provide support for the turf fibers, ballast or weight to secure the turf system, and assist in cooling the turf surface. It also makes it look and feel natural when you walk on it. Other alternative infill options exists, but are costly, such as organic GeoFill. Southwest Greens has invested in the research and development of in-fill to give you the best options for synthetic turf materials.

Why should I Invest in synthetic lawn turf?

There are many advantages to investing in synthetic turf. In terms of cost, it’s actually less expensive than natural grass when factoring in all the costs over the expected life of a synthetic grass lawn (15 years). In terms of aesthetics and maintenance, it’s advantageous to choose a synthetic lawn. Artificial grass is engineered to stay a lush green, and remain as soft as natural grass all year round; maintenance in minimal.  Simply blow debris off your lawn turf. You don’t have to mow, fertilize or water your yard; and, your overall costs associated with a yard will also decrease since you can eliminate the cost of irrigation, watering, mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aeration and topdressing.

Can I only choose from one kind of turf? Can I install it inside?

Depending on your personal preference and needs, we have many turf styles to suit your needs. We offer a variety of turf products for landscape lawns, rooftops, paver grass strip inlays, putting greens, mini golf, bocce ball courts, athletic fields, etc. Our design expertise and 15 years of installation experience will assure you of making the right choices. Our design process for golf greens is modeled after the Nicklaus Design process used to build the best golf courses in the world. We also offer some of the most technologically advanced grass fiber on the market.

How long will turf last? Is it durable? Will the color fade?

Since 1996, we have been installing synthetic turf. Our original installations continue to have the rich green color and texture of natural grass. Our synthetic grass products come with a 15-year manufacturer’s warranty that covers fading and degradation under normal conditions.  We have a 2-year installation workmanship warranty. Our products are Made in America, UV resistant and engineered to withstand heavy traffic and extreme weather conditions, including fluctuations in temperature.

How much maintenance is involved?

One of the reasons that artificial grass has become so popular is that it requires very little maintenance. For golf greens, we recommend our maintenance package every 12 months to keep your putting surface performing and looking great. General upkeep of synthetic grass, all you need is a good leaf blower to remove debris and leaves. Even pets can do their business on the turf without worry of staining, fading or discoloration. For most turf applications, a leaf blower and garden hose periodically to clear debris and clean the surface is all that’s necessary.
